Automation Process Engineer
Job Summary
Serve as the leader for automation technology, responsible for designing, commissioning, and optimizing robotic systems, controls, and vision inspection to enhance production efficiency and flexibility. The role requires strong expertise in smart manufacturing and lean automation, together with bilingual communication skills (English/Mandarin) preffered to support digital transformation across global operations.
Key Responsibilities
System Design & Integration
Develop and integrate automated production cells and lines, including robotics, PLC-controlled equipment, and sensing devices.
Configure control logic and interfaces to ensure reliable operation and seamless communication between machines and higher-level systems.
Robotics & Optimization
Program and optimize robot paths and sequences to reduce cycle time and improve throughput while meeting safety requirements.
Deploy collaborative and robotic applications that enhance flexibility and support standardized automation platforms.
Process Control & Troubleshooting
Diagnose and resolve automation and controls issues, including motion, communication, and hardware failures.
Implement SCADA/MES or related monitoring tools to enable predictive maintenance and data-driven decision-making.
Innovation & Lean Automation
Introduce advanced analytics or AI-based tools for quality and defect detection and to streamline manual tasks.
Lead continuous-improvement initiatives that reduce downtime, waste, and variability in automated processes.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Train and coach production teams on automated equipment operation, safety, and basic troubleshooting.
Collaborate with quality, maintenance, and engineering teams to ensure automated systems satisfy regulatory and customer requirements.
Compliance & Cost
Maintain compliance with relevant electrical and machinery safety standards through appropriate design and documentation.
Evaluate automation concepts and modular designs for investment, balancing performance, flexibility, and lifecycle cost.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Automation, or a closely related engineering discipline.
Experience: 5+ years in industrial or manufacturing automation, with proven leadership on full-scale automation projects.
Certifications: Robotics Certifications (FANUC/ABB), PMP, Six Sigma preferred.
Skills:
Proficient in robot programming, PLC/controls development, and 3D CAD; able to document and communicate in both English and Mandarin.
Familiar with industrial communication protocols and modern IIoT or data platforms used in smart factories.
Attributes: Innovative and hands-on problem solver, comfortable working in dynamic, highly technical production environments.
Additional Information
Willingness to support debug and ramp-up activities, including occasional weekend or off-shift work.
Role involves regular presence on the shop floor with associated noise and electrical hazards; appropriate safety and ESD protection will be provided.
Position includes post-hire training on customer-specific automation and quality standards.
