Injection Molding Process Engineer
Job Summary
Serve as a technical expert in injection molding, responsible for developing and optimizing processes for plastic components to meet quality, efficiency, and cost objectives. The role requires strong capabilities in mold design, polymer processing, and simulation tools, together with bilingual communication skills (English/Mandarin) preffered to support collaboration with global engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
Process Development
Define and refine molding parameters through structured experiments to achieve high first-pass yield and stable production.
Utilize molding simulation tools to optimize gate locations, filling behavior, and cooling performance.
Mold & Equipment
Validate new molds through trial runs and recommend design improvements for venting, cooling, and part quality.
Optimize machine settings and standardize process windows to reach target overall equipment effectiveness.
Quality & Cost
Apply statistical process control methods and capability analysis to maintain consistent part quality.
Lead cost-reduction activities such as material selection optimization and cycle-time improvements.
New Project Support
Provide design-for-manufacturability input, review risk analyses, and support product and process validation for new launches.
Continuous Improvement
Implement automation solutions and lead structured problem-solving or Six Sigma initiatives to improve yield and throughput.
Collaboration & Training
Address customer and internal quality concerns with clear technical documentation and corrective actions, and train teams on best-practice procedures.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Plastics, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
Experience: 3+ years in injection molding process or tooling engineering within a manufacturing environment; experience with high-volume production is preferred.
Certifications: Professional certifications in process improvement, molding, or quality (e.g., Six Sigma, molding simulation) are an advantage.
Skills:
Proficient with molding simulation and CAD tools, and comfortable with scientific molding approaches.
Strong understanding of polymer behavior and molding thermodynamics, with bilingual capability for effective global collaboration.
Attributes: Highly analytical, hands-on problem solver, able to perform in fast-paced, production-oriented environments.
Additional Information
Willingness to support extended hours during trials, start-ups, or critical production issues.
Role involves working around molding equipment and hot surfaces; appropriate PPE and safety practices are required.
Position includes role-specific training on customer standards and production systems after hire.
